AMEB will launch a new Online Written Examination Centre on 29 January 2018.


AMEB apologises for the inconvenience caused by the delay in launching the new Online Written Exam Centre and remains focussed on ensuring that examinations can be completed at clients’ convenience, after the launch date. Clients who have purchased an online Written exam which has not been completed will receive an email on or shortly after 29 January which will provide details about logging in to the new system.


  • New Victorian enrolments for online Written examinations can be purchased via AMEB Connect (Victoria) from 29 January 2018.
  • The new Online Exam Centre will be initially released in ‘desktop version’. This will require clients to download a small piece of software to allow the completion of an official or practise exam on either desktop or laptop computer.

Why are you changing?
The current online examination website uses a program called Director and a plug in called Shockwave. This technology is becoming redundant and is creating usability issues for our customers. Our new platform will be launched using HTML5, which is the recommended technology for this type of system and will greatly enhance usability and customer experience.


What if I’ve recently bought an online written examination?
No problem – you can sit your examination at your convenience. However, we do encourage you to complete your examination in the current system before the transition on 31 December 2017.


What if I’m not ready to do my written examination by 31 December 2017?
That’s fine. Your examination key will remain current but your enrolment will be transferred to the new system. This means that you will complete your examination in our new Online Written Examination Centre, which may require you to spend some extra time familiarising yourself with the updated technology before completing the examination.


What if I want to buy a written examination in late December?
You are free to purchase whenever convenient, however unless you intend to complete your examination immediately, we recommend you wait and purchase your examination in the new system after 1 January 2018.


What happens if I experience technical issues during the transition period?
We are working very hard to ensure a smooth transition for all customers. However, if you happen to experience a technical issue, our Customer Support Team will be ready to help you. Does this mean that AMEB is changing its Written Syllabus?
We are not changing any of the written syllabuses, we’re just improving the way we deliver online examinations for Theory of Music, Musicianship and Music Craft.


Will AMEB still offer an ‘on-paper’ examinations in 2018?
Yes, we will still offer our an opportunity to complete annual written examination sitting in 2018. Enrolments for these ‘on-paper’ examinations can still be made via AMEB Connect (Victoria).
